Kelsea Has Chalk in Her Hair Now.

I'm ashamed to admit that I can be a little slow on the uptake when it comes to trends. Ankle boots, fringe handbags, Arcade Fire, feather hair extensions--all trends that I gloriously missed by about a year. So, I have no idea when this whole chalk-in-the-hair thing started, but I love it, and now it's time for my fellow trend-missers to see it, too! This method of hair coloring is awesome because it is extremely temporary; you get to play with colors, and they wash right out when you're done!

Here's what you'll need to recreate this shindig:

Soft pastel chalks in whatever color you like!
I got mine at an art supply store here in New Orleans. You can either buy individual colors or a little set. I got the set for $15 because I have a feeling I'll be doing this often. DO NOT BUY OIL PASTELS. They will get stuck in your hair!

Bristle hairbrush thingy!
I just bought this one at Wal-Mart for $1.50.

Maybe some clear hair ties!
Also at Wal-Mart for $2.50. This part's only needed if you want to do a rull fancy up-do.

And now, without further ado, the walk-through!

1. Take your shirt off, or change into an old one that you don't care about. This stuff will get on you!

2. Grab a piece of your hair that you want to color. I like the strands right behind the ear, because they're a little subtler. The smaller the piece, the easier it will be to color. For those with darker hair, you'll want to dampen the hair with warm water. Blondes and redheads, try it dry first, because the moment you mix the pastel with water, it becomes more of a dye, and it'll take a few washes to get it out.

3. Twist the hair strand like this so the surface area can get more chalk (super blurry, whoops!).

 4. Chalk it up! As seen above, I chose teal for my first color.

5. Let it dry and repeat as needed! I ended up doing lots of colors, and then twisting it into an up-do. Just make two French braids on each side of your head, then pull the rest of your hair into a messy bun and wrap the braids around it. Voila!

Alright, that's it for my first blog post ever! Whew! Let me know what you think of the hair, and be on the lookout for more posts in the future! Until then...

stay classy,
                                     Kelsea.

    1. Thanks! Strangely enough, this was the first time in my life I've ever tried to make a French braid, so I was pretty pleased!
